Overview
Practitioner support is often a goal directed activity in which we help someone consider whether they might change as well as how and when to do it. Sometimes the change goal or intended outcome is immediately clear and is agreed upon, but if it becomes blurred or when goals differ there are constructive ways of finding direction for your conversation about change. In this workshop we consider the process of seeking and maintaining a shared direction with service users based on experience and insights from Motivational Interviewing. This should be of interest to people working in health and social care who have conversations with services users about change.
Completion of the SDF Introduction to Motivational Interviewing training is a requirement for attendance.
Aim
To illustrate good practice in those situations where seeking and maintaining direction towards a change goal might help the service user clarify where to focus.
