This session will take place on the Microsoft Teams platform.
Overview
Even in the best situations after listening and thoughtful work, service users required to carry out a prescribed plan as part of set conditions can make choices and engage in behaviours you wish they wouldn’t. Such times do call for a response. In this workshop we consider how to approach this scenario using a strength-based, collaborative and an autonomy supportive response based on experience and insights from Motivational Interviewing. This should be of interest to people who work in services where there is a dual role of managing the relationship between the service user and the supervising authority.
Completion of the SDF Introduction to Motivational Interviewing training is a requirement for attendance.
Aim
To illustrate practice consistent with motivational interviewing in non-compliance situations which maintains the balance between supporting change in service users and an effective advocate for the supervising authority.
