Overview
This 3 day intermediate level workshop is designed for individuals who have completed the SDF 2 day introductory training in Motivational Interviewing (MI) and have started practice in using this method in their own setting. This workshop will involve intentional observed skills practise to develop greater ability and insight on who to apply MI. Participants are asked to practise MI between day 2 and day 3 with an individual within their own practice setting and to undertake a critical self-assessment of this practice.
Aim
To move from basic competence to more advanced skilfulness in Motivational Interviewing.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

Demonstrate the practice of actively encouraging a client's own language in favour of a change goal and confidence for making that change (Change Talk).

Demonstrate the practice of decreasing emphasis on client language favouring the status quo (Sustain Talk).

Demonstrate the practice of actively fostering and encouraging collaboration and power sharing in the interaction.

Demonstrate the practice of accurate understanding of the client's perspective and conveying that understanding to the client.
