Offering Feedback, Advice and Information

Overview

Why is it that good advice or common sense doesn’t always prevail when offered to service users? In this workshop we consider how to improve giving feedback, advice and information based on experience and insights from Motivational Interviewing. This should be of interest to people working in health and social care where providing feedback, advice or information is part of the role.

Completion of the SDF 2 Day Introduction to Motivational Interviewing trainings is a requirement for attendance.

Aim

To clarify and illustrate good practice in those situations where feedback, advice and information from practitioners might help the service user make changes.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:

  • Discussed the importance of improving practice at offering people feedback, advice and information.
  • Clarified what we mean by offering feedback, advice and information.
  • Observed a demonstration of offering feedback, advice or information using the ‘ASK-OFFER-ASK’ process.
